بحسب النموذج الرائد المتطور لمركبات دونغ فينغ التجارية، فقد تم تصنيع "دونغ فينغ جي إكس" باستخدام ثلاث مجموعات عالمية تُستخدم في سلسلة الإنتاج: محرك Dongfeng KMS Z14، وناقل حركة أوتوماتيكي EATON وZFK، ومحور Dongfeng Dana. أقصى قدرة للمحرك تصل إلى 600 حصان، وأقصى عزم للدوران 2750 نيوتن متر، ومعدل استهلاك الوقود لكل 100 كيلو متر يُقدر بحوالي 27 لتر، وهو ما يتناسب مع خزانات الوقود المزدوجة سعة 850 لتر+300 لتر بما يُلبي كامل احتياجات النقل عالي السرعة لشاحنات النقل الثقيل للوجستيات المسافات طويلة.
